A New Beginning

Entering university might be challenging for most freshmen. However, unlike my friends in another university, I settled in easily thanks to FEP.

In this blog entry I’ll be discussing about my experience in FEP, HTTP and organizational skill that I went through in august up until September. Without further ado, let us get into it.

FEP or Freshmen Enrichment Program is an event made by Binus University specially designed to help new students adapt to campus life. This FE Program is divided into 3 phases with the span of the whole 1st semester.

The first phase would be General Orientation, which was held for a week starting August 22nd 2016. In this General Orientation we learn basically the basics of being a student in Binus University. From the “so many yet they asked us to memorize” rules, Binus Maya, Binus Way, and many more. And oh, I forgot to mention that I was in EBN, meaning that I was in the fifth out of six orientation groups.

The second phase, Academic Orientation, was held last week on 6th of September. The aim of academic orientation is to introduce students to the curriculum, study habits, and exam in Binus. This is one of the most exhausting program for freshmen if I may say so because from the first day of the program, I got to break my back trying to learn programming language (in my case it’s C) from the empty dark void of nothingness. And one the more annoying part was the test on the last day of academic orientation. I had no idea what to wrote during the programming part. I mean I knew what to do and I did it, but the freaking compiler said otherwise and it was killing me. Furthermore, those lecturers gave me tons of work to do in my beloved boarding room. Not that I’m complaining because one of my goal is to quit Dota but damn it, I need some “me” time with myself.

Lastly we have “Campus Life Orientation” which is the one I’m going through right now. I’m not sure what this part of the program does, but the idea is to meet and discuss our college stuffs with seniors I guess? I’ll give you some more updates when I’m done with this part of the program.

Next we have HTTP or if you prefer the tiring version, HIMTI Togetherness and Top Performance. This event was held specially for SoCS’s students. Think of it as a welcome party for SoCS’s students. Although the rave and drama part was fun, it was also freaking expensive. 150k IDR was okay if you at least gave me more food during lunch time. And don’t you forget that HIMTI Kit, which was supposed to be accessible to me and others who joined http, is not downloadable. Heck it was not even accessible by me. If I’m allowed, and I’m still hoping am, I would like a 50% refund. Oh man how I wish I can say that I wasn’t scammed. However, I have to admit that I got some new friends in http. I also found out which people that I’m never gonna hang out with so I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.

I’m told that I have to write something about organizational skill. But personally, I have no idea what to write so here it goes.

I joined 3 organizations/clubs in Binus so far. BNAC, Wushu, and CSC. I quitted BNAC (Automotive Club) 3 days after joining its’ first event. Not that I dislike the idea of automotive club, but I feel like if I hang out too much with them, I’m gonna fail my college. Because all they do is hang out. and touring. and smoking. And vaping. And many other useless activity IN MY OPINION. Notice how I wrote “in my opinion” so you have no rights to complain.

I like wushu though. They taught me how to strecth my body. I was surprised my body can stretch so much. I go to wushu training every Sunday and Thursday and I’m not planning to stop training. I also made lots of friends in wushu club.

I’m currently an activist in CSC (Cyber Security Community). I’m planning on joining TRD division in CSC. I’m not sure what TRD stands for but I know that it has something to do with technical stuffs. I hope that I can be big with the help from this organization.

To sum up, FEP is one of the most important program in Binus University. Because without it, freshmen won’t be able to fit in the family and campus life of Bina Nusantara.
